DESCRIPTION
Il rubber pad it really is a fantastic tool for many exercises of proprioception. In its great simplicity it provides the weapons to improve balance in every area, from the professional one of sport to the postural one for the elderly. Inflated with air, it deforms sufficiently to create instability, so that it can be used not only with the lower limbs, but also by leaning on the hands and knees, or by sitting on it. All this makes it possible to make positions unstable and to activate support muscles in order to correct the loss of balance. Let's look at some exercises. From the upright position, the most basic actions suggest standing on it with two feet, or with only one.
Compared to the Freeman board, you immediately notice a significant load on the ankle and a less predictable instability, so to speak. Having more than one available, it is an excellent exercise to walk on them, after having distributed them on the ground. Athletes use it in a more extreme way: they can jump on it with one or two legs, practice squats even with a load, or perform the technical gesture of the sport they practice (a volleyball player dribbles while balancing on Bump Discs or a basketball shoots a basket over them).
Bump Discs allow you to perform excellent core exercises, for example the bird-dog extension: you need four discs placed under your hands and knees, at this point you proceed with the alternate extension of your arms and legs. The action can be facilitated by using only two discs, placed under the hands or under the knees, as you prefer. Finally, sitting on it and lifting your feet off the ground causes instability which must be corrected with the abdominal muscles. Wanting to create a more intense action, a medicine ball is used to twist the torso. Bump Discs also represent an excellent support for many Pilates exercises, such as the spine twist, the toe tap, the single leg stretch and many others, which become more intense and even more interesting.
