The project of the Powerlifting Plates line he started from the idea of creating calibrated discs steel products, machined from solid on CNC machines, finished with epoxy powder coating. However, the tests highlighted the inadequacy of paints, even the most resistant ones, with respect to the use of discs, to wear, but also to the various production steps. In practice, the discs presented blemishes right from the production phase.
It was therefore decided to adopt a different finishing, through high resistance chrome plating, in order to guarantee a level of quality and aesthetic durability appropriate to the type of product.
The chrome plating, worked to a mirror finish, however, presented further aesthetic problems, which made it unsuitable for the intense and spartan use, typical of the powerlifting. Here then is the choice to proceed through a further process micro shot peening processing on the central part of the disc and on the smooth side, the one not worked and calibrated, by removing the material. Result: a record aesthetically beautiful, perfectly calibrated, very thin, and extremely resistant to wear.
In order to comply with international standards relating to the chromatic recognition of the discs, it was then decided to proceed via special painting of the engraved graphics, also necessary for weight calibration, and for the implementation of a colored silicone ring, placed in a special recess made on the head of the disc. The solution guarantees immediate and perfect recognition of the weight.
Considering the aesthetically and technically significant result, we were tempted to engrave the graphics painted on both sides. The choice of the single-sided disc, calibrated by removing material on one side only, has however prevailed over the need to have an extremely thin disc. Removing material from both sides would inevitably have resulted in the production of a disc with slightly greater thickness. Also in this case we preferred, albeit by a few mm, to favor the technical aspects.
