GUIDE TO SELECTING DISCS

Discs can be divided into three categories: coated (“rubberized”) - solid (“bumper”) - technical.

The coated ones are metal discs coated with rubber or polyurethane, i small they are discs entirely produced in rubber or polyurethane. The combination of these elements: coated or solid, rubber or polyurethane, determines characteristics, intended use, production cost; polyurethane has the highest production cost.

The technicians instead, they are sui generis discs, that is, they are produced according to their own solutions to respond to specific technical needs. If we consider the disk simply as weight, the use of metal is certainly the most suitable solution, in terms of cost but also in terms of size and therefore the possibility of loading it onto tools and racks.

However, considered in the context of weight lifting, the disc must also be resilient (resist dynamic forces, i.e. impacts on the floor, absorbing energy with elastic deformations), the use of rubber fulfills this function. Finally, if evaluated in the context of a tool room, the disc must also have aesthetic, accident prevention and handling characteristics, with comfortable grips, as in metal discs coated with rubber or polyurethane.

Therefore, starting from this brief introduction, let's analyze the main characteristics of the various models of discs that we produce.

Rubber coated metal discs - Series 9030/3-9035/3 Rubber Plate

Composed of the sizes 1,25; 2,5; 5; 10; 20 kg, exclusively in the black color, this line was born with the aim of get the best value for money for multipurpose discs with handle.

The metal makes the molding of the handles possible while maintaining a high structural resistance, the rubber guarantees a minimum resilience and good accident prevention characteristics and comfort in the grip. They are the most aesthetically spartan discs of our production and can also be used resting on technical flooring as long as the fall is always accompanied and well controlled.

Polyurethane Coated Metal Discs - Series 9030-9036 PU Plate

Composed of the sizes 1,25; 2,5; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25 kg, two-tone black/grey, this line was created with the aim of achieve the highest quality and aesthetic standards for multipurpose discs with handle.

The metal makes the molding of the handles possible while maintaining a high structural resistance, the polyurethane guarantees further resistance, good accident prevention characteristics and a very high comfort in the grip. Discs are harder to the touch than rubber discs, but the finish obtainable with polyurethane allows for very rounded edges. The polyurethane discs are then characterized by clear colours, absence of smell, absence of marks due to the mould, so much so that the impeccable aesthetics represents one of the most important characteristics of the PU Plates. The wear and light degradation of polyurethane is much lower than that of rubber.

Solid discs in polyurethane - Series 9040/3 - 9046/3 PU Bumper Plate COLOR

Made up of 5 pieces; 10; 15; 20; 25 kg, colors according to the IWF standard, this line of bumpers is made using metal discs covered in polyurethane. As already underlined, polyurethane can be considered the best material to produce discs. Very high resistance, extraordinary compactness, reduced bounce, no smell, clear colours, absence of imperfections and marks due to the mould, perfect coupling with the steel plate, the PU discs represent the best possible solution in terms of reliability, aesthetics and quality general. The wear and light degradation of polyurethane is much lower than that of rubber. Furthermore, thanks to the high density of the material, the PU discs have a very reduced thickness, which allows you to load a barbell over 350 kg, almost as if they were metal discs, but with the advantage of being more resilient. However, the lower elastic deformation compared to rubber can also be considered a limit for those who prefer softer and more bouncy bumpers.

Solid rubber discs - Series 9040/1-9044/1 Bumper Plate in rubber

Solid discs are made for weightlifting (weightlifting, powerlifting, cross training) and therefore to resist the barbell falling to the ground, hence the name bumper = bumper. To guarantee a uniformly distributed support, as well as a fixed height of the bar from the floor, the bumper plates are all produced with the same external diameter, conventionally fixed at 45 cm by the various federal regulations. Due to its mechanical characteristics, synthetic rubber is the most suitable material for making this type of disc.

The 9040/1-9044/1 series, made up of sizes 5; 10; 15; 20 kg, was born with the aim of get the best value for money, for this reason it is produced exclusively in the black color, without painting and with a steel ring.

Solid competition rubber discs - Series 9042/5 - 9046/5 Competition Rubber Bumper Plate

Made up of 10 pieces; 15; 20; 25 kg, colors according to the IWF standard (in weightlifting competitions, 5 kg bumper discs are not used, but small fractional rubber discs: Cod. 9038/50). This line of bumpers was created with the aim of obtaining the highest quality standards for discs dedicated to competitions. The rubber used is the same as the Pro-Training line but the disc mounts a large steel plate with a diameter of 185 mm to reinforce the central area, reduce the tolerance with the balance wheel while also reducing, this is the most important feature, the amount of rubber the disc is composed. Central compactness, precision insertion on the balance wheel, reduced thickness, low rebound effect, characterize the Competition Bumper Plates.

Technical discs - Series 9038/05 - 9038/25 FRACTIONAL PLATES FRICTION GRIP – MY2021

Made up of sizes 0,5; 1; 1,5, 2; 2,5 kg, colors according to the IWF standard, are small metal discs covered with rubber, in order to divide the weight to be lifted. The hole does not have a ring but is characterized by the presence of a rubber membrane capable of exerting a friction grip on the balance wheel. Thanks to this solution, the fractional discs can be positioned outside the disc stop collars in such a way as to speed up their insertion and removal. In fact, the rubber membrane allows loading but, adhering to the disc holder, it does not allow the disc to move or slip off easily due to gravity; FRICTION GRIP function.

Technical discs - 9040/25 Technical Plates 2,5 kg

Full disc in PVC, without ring, produced with a thickness of only 2 cm in order to obtain the same diameter as the bumper discs, 45 cm, and therefore bring the barbell to the same height from the ground. This allows you to use the Technical Plates 2,5 also in combination with the bumpers as the space they occupy on the balance wheel is very small. The material, hard and resistant, allows you to use these discs also resting on technical floors as long as the fall is always accompanied and controlled.

Technical discs - Series 9040/25H - 9040/50H - Technical Hollow Plates

Composed of the 2,5 and 5 kg sizes, they are empty polyethylene discs, without rings, produced with a high thickness, 6 and 8,5 cm, in order to obtain the same diameter as the bumper discs, 45 cm, carry the barbell at the same height from the ground, maintaining the possibility, despite the very low weight, of being able to drop (“drop”) the balance wheel on rubberized flooring.

To set up a training area there are several elements to consider: optimization of the space available, functionality, aesthetics and, obviously, cost. The possibilities in this sense are many and embrace the most varied areas, for each of which it is possible to configure an optimal solution. Fundamental components within these configurations are certainly the training structures (or racks), the technical flooring, the storage solutions and finally, the equipment.
