The resistance is generated by a fan connected to the flywheel (fan blade system), which increases exponentially as the flywheel's rotational speed increases. According to this principle, the intensity of the workout is directly related to the power applied by the user: the aerodynamic resistance of the flywheel increases with the square of the speed, so by doubling the rotation speed, the air resistance quadruples.
This mechanism differentiates Air Bikes from conventional bikes with flywheel and magnetic or contact resistance. The resistance increases in proportion to the intensity with which the user pedals and pushes the handles.
In order to decrease the intensity, it is sufficient to reduce the speed of pedalling and pushing the handles, thus allowing a natural and immediate control of the workout. This type of resistance control, based on effort intensity, simulates important psychophysical factors, improving the effectiveness of total-body training.
