The kettlebell can rightly be considered the iconic piece of equipment of Functional Training as it was the first to break the mould of traditional training linked to isotonic machines, dumbbells and barbells.
These tools are very effective both in terms of athletic preparation and in improving posture and general physical conditioning.
But although it is the tool that condenses all the fundamental characteristics of Functional Training, the Kettlebell is also the one that has seen the most technical interpretations in recent years, many of which are unfortunately far removed from the scientific parameters dictated by the biomechanics of human body movement.
This is why, in the eyes of sceptics, the kettlebell has often ended up being considered a 'useless' and 'dangerous' piece of equipment. The problem lies in the technical approximation of its use, because with the right technical knowledge (which only a trainer specialised in their use can have) the kettlebell holds incredible potential in all aspects of physical training from injury prevention (especially of the shoulder, spine and knees) to general physical preparation (of those who in the gym seek aesthetics associated with the health and functionality of the joints), and specific training for all sports where the power of hip extension, stabilisation of the spine, and a strong and functional structure of the scapulohumeral girdle is required, both in terms of stability and in multiplanar movements.
These are in fact the two fundamental characteristics of Kettlebell Training: allowing joint decompression work associated with continuous stabilisation in the physiological joint location of the scapular girdle, in the three planes of movement (sagittal, frontal and transverse), with continuous support of the core and lower body base (hips and lower limbs);
Increasing neuro-muscular strength and power expression in hip extension combined with stabilisation of the knees, spine and scapular girdle.
Due to their shape, kettlebells, balls with a flat bottom and a handle at the top, allow the grip to be off-centre in relation to the mass. Kettlebell training quickly develops great grip, strength, endurance and muscular quality.
Their shape also allows for the safe development of ballistic movements by engaging all muscle chains in all planes of movement, thus improving joint health and posture, as well as rapidly increasing the athlete's co-ordination, speed and power!
These tools are very effective both in terms of athletic preparation and in improving posture and general physical conditioning.
Like the Flying (No. 2092) training with KETTLEBELLS is part of the functional training that has been gaining a certain amount of popularity lately and will probably influence future trends in athletic training and fitness
