9036/6-9046/6 Powerlifting Plates

The design of the Powerlifting Plates line started with the idea of producing calibrated discs made of steel, machined from solid steel on CNC machines and finished with epoxy powder coating.

However, the tests revealed the inadequacy of even the most resistant coatings with respect to the use of the discs, wear, and also with respect to the various production steps. In practice, the discs showed blemishes right from the production stage.
It was therefore decided to adopt a different finish, using high-strength chrome plating, in order to guarantee a level of quality and aesthetic durability appropriate to the type of product.

However, the mirror-finished chrome plating presented further aesthetic problems, which made it unsuitable for the intense and spartan use typical of powerlifting. This led to the decision to proceed with a further micro-bead blasting process on the central part of the disc and on the smooth side, the one not machined and calibrated, by removing the material. The result: an aesthetically beautiful disc, perfectly calibrated, very thin, and extremely resistant to wear.

In order to comply with international standards concerning the chromatic recognisability of the discs, it was then decided to proceed by painting the engraved graphics, which are also necessary for weight calibration, and implementing a coloured silicone ring, placed in a special recess in the head of the disc. This solution guarantees the immediate and perfect recognition of the weight.

Given the aesthetically and technically relevant result, we were tempted to engrave the painted graphics on both sides. However, the choice of a single-sided disc, calibrated by removing material on one side only, was imposed over the need for a very thin disc. The removal of material on both sides would inevitably have resulted in the production of a disc with a slightly higher thickness.

Here too, we preferred, albeit by a few mm, to focus on the technical aspects.
