A complete range of barbells for every type of training. Olympic, hybrid and specialised barbells; for weight training, powerlifting, physical culture, cross training. Pre-loaded barbells, hexagonal bars, EZ angled bars and super pump bars also belong to this category.

BARBELL SELECTION GUIDE

The SIDEA range includes a wide variety of barbells, divided into three main categories: Olympic, Hybrid and Specialised.
The choice of model depends on the type of training, the exercises performed, the weights used and the technical specifications required.

MAIN CATEGORIES

OLYMPIC BARBELLS

Barbells designed for Olympic weightlifting and manufactured in accordance with IWF dimensional standards.

The top-of-the-range models are the two PREMIUM barbells, featuring a black-chrome-plated bar:

  • 9015/4 Premium Men’s Olympic Barbell
  • 9015/5 Premium Women’s Olympic Barbell

They are made from high-tensile-strength steel and feature specific design features to withstand tearing, momentum and repeated falls onto the platform. The medium-depth knurling ensures an effective grip, whilst maintaining a good level of comfort even during frequent, high-volume training sessions.

This category also includes the following model, given its size, performance and premium-level build quality:

  • 9015/9 Olympic Barbell for CrossFit®, also available in a women’s version 9015/9W,

It is designed for high-rep workouts and to withstand high levels of impact stress, typical of cross-training sessions in which the barbell is subjected to frequent and repeated drops.

The bar is made of steel, finished with a hard chrome plating, and has high tensile strength; it has been selected to ensure the right balance between strength, elasticity and the ability to return to its original shape following dynamic stresses. In addition, specific high-value technical solutions have been incorporated, developed to improve the fatigue resistance of the sleeves, the stability of the internal components and long-term reliability.

The construction, mechanical connections and components are therefore designed to meet the demands of cross-training, where the volume of work, speed of execution, frequent changes in load and repeated drops onto the platform require superior characteristics to those of a traditional Olympic barbell.

 TRAINING models:

  • 9015/4C H-Performance
  • 9015/8 Olympic Training Barbell

Both are designed to offer the right balance between performance, build quality and cost. The 9015/4C uses a higher-performance steel than the 9015/8 and features the same internal configuration in the sleeves as the Premium models. The 9015/8 is therefore intended for workouts that do not require particularly high tensile forces. For this reason, its technical data sheet specifies the recommended maximum loads according to the exercise being performed.

HYBRID BARBELLS

These models retain the main features of Olympic barbells, differing in their overall length, which is 185 and 140 cm respectively.

This category includes:

  • 9015/3 Training barbell 185
  • 9014 Barbell Training 140

These models retain the main features of Olympic barbells, differing in their overall length, which is 185 and 140 cm respectively.

The shorter bar reduces the overall dimensions and makes the barbells particularly easy to handle and versatile. They are ideal for gyms with limited space, home gyms, group classes and training programmes where the full length of a regulation Olympic barbell is not required.

SPECIALISED BALANCERS

Specialist barbells are designed to meet specific technical, biomechanical or training-methodological requirements.

  • 9015 Olympic Powerlifting Barbell
A model developed at the Sidea gym, featuring a bar with a diameter of 32 mm, which is larger than the 29 mm bars commonly used in powerlifting.
  • 9015/2 Competition Powerlift Bar 29 mm
A barbell designed in accordance with IPF technical regulations and characterised by high-quality construction, rigidity and dimensional accuracy.
  • 9015/7 Axle 50 Barbell
Barbell with handles, i.e. a bar, 51 mm in diameter, suitable for improving grip strength, athletic training and strongman exercises.
  • 9014/1 Lightweight Aluminium Barbell
  • 9015/1 Lightweight Introductory Barbell

Two lightweight barbells designed for learning weightlifting techniques, with a particular focus on the snatch and clean and jerk. The 9014/1 is a technical aluminium barbell, the same size as a women’s Olympic barbell but weighing just 5 kg, whilst the 9015/1, weighing 3.5 kg, is an economical and compact option (168 cm), also suitable for group lessons and training sessions.

  • 9027 EZ Angled Barbell
  • 9027P EZ Premium Angled Barbell

Contoured barbells for bicep and tricep training, with grips designed to reduce stress on the wrists and elbows. The first is a basic, functional model; the second features superior-quality padding and finishes. See the comparison.

  • 9011/1 Safety Squat Barbell

A barbell fitted with padding and front handles, useful for those with limited mobility in the shoulders, wrists or elbows, which makes it difficult to use a traditional barbell for squats.

The high level of load control also enhances its versatility, making it suitable for lunges, Bulgarian squats, single-leg exercises, step-ups and other lower-body variations.

  • 8710–8745 Pre-loaded Rocker Arms
  • 8610–8645 EZ Pre-loaded Barbells

Two complete sets ranging from 10 to 45 kg, each comprising ten barbells. They are a gym training classic thanks to their exceptional ease of use.

They are particularly well suited to stripping, drop sets, supersets and training techniques that involve rapid changes in load and short rest periods.

  • 9027/1 Triceps Bar

A specialised barbell fitted with parallel handles, designed for triceps training and to offer alternative grips compared to traditional barbells.

The range includes various versions of the hex bar, designed to meet specific training requirements:

  • 9012 Olympic Hex Bar
Traditional hex bar with 40 cm long weight plate sleeves, also suitable for weight plates with a wide flange.
  • 9012/1 Super Hex Bar
This model features raised sleeves to make it easier to load and unload discs, as well as a multi-diameter rotating handle.
  • 9012/2 Olympic Hex Bar Compact
A compact version of the traditional hex bar, with 32 cm long weight plate sleeves.
  • 9012/3 Low Hex Bar
A hex bar designed for athletic training and to offer a high degree of freedom of movement across different planes of motion. Its unique configuration allows for greater depth of movement during lunges, squats and single-leg exercises, promoting wide, natural movements. The horizontal positioning of the discs simplifies loading and unloading and allows the bar to sit lower than traditional hex bars, thereby increasing the available range of motion. With the addition of the Hamstring Bar 9012/3B, the Low Hex Bar 9012/3 is transformed into a particularly versatile lower-body training station, suitable for sport-specific athletic training, strength work and motor control, and for settings where compactness and versatility are key advantages, such as home gyms and personal training studios.
  • 9012/4 Open Hex Bar
An innovative evolution of the hex bar, designed to offer greater versatility, compactness and ease of use across a wide range of exercises. Thanks to its compact design, ease of use and adaptability, it is undoubtedly the most functional of all the quadra bars.
  • 9026 Farmer Walk Bars

Originally designed for the farmer’s walk, these bars are also suitable for a wide range of carrying, lifting and grip-strengthening exercises.

The main bar, which can be gripped directly for specific grip training exercises, has a diameter of 50 mm, whilst the two dedicated handles have a diameter of 28 mm, closer to that of a standard barbell. Their compact size and high versatility make Farmer Walk Bars particularly suitable for athletic preparation, functional training and, more generally, strength and conditioning programmes.

  • 9011/2 Seal Row Barbell

A barbell designed specifically for use on the 9021 Seal Row Bench. The bar’s unique geometry facilitates correct positioning relative to the bench and allows for a more practical, deeper and more effective performance of horizontal pull exercises, such as the seal row, barbell row and barbell row.

  • 1660 Super Pump Barbell – length 132 cm, grip Ø 35 mm, weight 2 kg
  • 1660/1 Super Pump Iron Barbell  - length 132 cm, handle Ø 28 mm, weight 1.5 kg

Compact barbells designed for Pump Training, a group activity based on light weights, high repetitions and continuous exercise set to music. Ideal for developing endurance strength, muscle tone and metabolic conditioning through multi-joint sequences led by an instructor.

Barbell: the Sidea selection

The term barbell — barbell — encompasses a family of equipment that is far more diverse than it appears. There is no single universal barbell: there are barbells designed for high-speed ballistic movements, barbells engineered to withstand maximum loads during squats, and specialist bars conceived to address specific biomechanical issues or to add functional variations to a programme. The Sidea range covers this entire spectrum, from Olympic barbells for daily training right through to more technical pieces of equipment such as the seal row bar or the multi-grip bar, including hex bars in various shapes and a set of accessories designed for those who train seriously with the barbell every day.

Who is Barbell?

Those who coach Olympic weightlifters or powerlifters have specific requirements: a rigid shaft for pull-ups, controlled ‘whip’ for ballistic movements, and finishes that can withstand hundreds of drops a week. The 29mm competition barbell and the Olympic barbell for CrossFit meet these standards. CrossFit boxes, in particular, require barbells that can withstand repeated drops onto bumper plates without the ends becoming deformed: the durability of the sleeves and the quality of the ball bearings are non-negotiable factors in that context.

A fitness coach working with team sports or winter sports takes a different approach: they look for variations that alter the position of the load in relation to the centre of gravity. The <a href=

Domande frequenti - Barbell

  • The Olympic barbell has a diameter of 28 mm and sleeves fitted with ball bearings, which allow for rapid and smooth rotation – essential for ballistic movements such as the snatch and clean. The powerlifting barbell has a diameter of 29 mm, is stiffer (less ‘whip’) and the sleeves may feature bronze bushings: rotation is less critical in slow movements such as the squat, bench press and deadlift.
  • The hex bar shifts the load laterally in relation to the body, bringing the centre of gravity closer to the lifter’s vertical axis. This reduces the bending moment on the lumbar spine and allows for a more upright posture compared to the conventional deadlift. It is recommended for athletes learning the vertical loading pattern, for those with lower back limitations, and in athletic power training programmes where speed of execution is prioritised over technical specificity.
  • The ‘whip’ is the elastic flexing of the barbell during a lift. In Olympic lifts such as the snatch, a barbell with the right amount of whip stores energy during the pull phase and releases it during the transition, making the movement easier. In powerlifting movements, the whip is undesirable as it compromises control over the load. The whip depends on the barbell’s diameter, length and material.
  • The bushings should be lubricated periodically with light oil to ensure smooth rotation. The knurled surfaces should be cleaned with a copper brush — such as the R9014 — to remove chalk, surface rust and residue without damaging the metal. The balance bar should never be left loaded for prolonged periods without use: the constant weight may cause it to deform at the point of contact. Always avoid contact with abrasive surfaces or standing moisture.
  • No. The safety squat bar shifts the centre of gravity further forward compared to a straight barbell, increasing the work done by the erector spinae and core muscles in the standing position. It is used by advanced athletes to vary the training stimulus for squats, by strength and conditioning coaches who wish to increase squat volume without overloading the shoulders, and by those with restricted upper-body mobility. It is not a rehabilitation aid, but a specific technical tool.
  • A functional barbell area requires at least: a rack or squat stand for the safe handling of weights, weight collars to secure the plates, and bumper or cast-iron plates suitable for the type of barbell, as well as technical flooring to protect the equipment and the facility. The station is completed by: a weightlifting belt for maximum lifts, a jerk block for weightlifting, chalk or grip aid in accordance with regulations, and a minimum space of 3.5 metres in length to manoeuvre a 220-centimetre Olympic barbell with discs.
