The Air Bike uses a fan as its resistance system: the harder you pedal, the more resistance the machine offers, with no preset levels. It also engages the upper body thanks to the movable handles. A traditional exercise bike has magnetic or brake resistance with fixed levels and works only the legs. The Air Bike is the standard for HIIT protocols such as Assault Bike sprints or Tabata.
Yes. The Curve Run is a self-powered curved treadmill: the running surface moves thanks to the athlete’s push against the front of the curve. It requires no mains power, has no set maximum speed, and the speed depends on the runner’s position on the belt. It is used for sprints, running EMOMs and circuit training in CrossFit boxes and athletic training centres.
The Air Row, with its air resistance, is the standard in CrossFit boxes and functional competitions: the resistance increases with the intensity of the pull. The magnetic rowing machine is quieter and better suited to home gyms in blocks of flats or personal training studios where noise is an issue. For tests such as the 2K row or WODs based on calories, air resistance is the benchmark.
The Air Ski simulates the push of cross-country skiing and the pulling motion from above: it works the posterior chain, back, triceps and core. It is used in athletic training for endurance sports, in HIIT programmes as an alternative to the rowing machine, and in upper-body rehabilitation. The Sidea model is available in a wall-mounted version or with the HC004/2 floor base for free-standing installations.
A single station requires approximately 2×2 m for an Air Bike or Air Row, 1×1.5 m for a wall-mounted Air Ski, and 2.5×1 m for a Curve Run. A complete conditioning area with 4–6 machines requires approximately 25–35 m², including walkways. Sidea offers a Gym Design service with 3D renderings to ensure the area is correctly sized.
Maintenance is minimal compared to motorised cardio machines. The fan needs to be cleaned periodically to remove dust; the drive belt or chain should be checked every 6–12 months depending on usage; and the fastenings should be checked to ensure they are tight. The absence of a motor, complex electronics and speed-control components eliminates the main points of failure typical of motorised treadmills.
The Run Up HC010 is designed for running and walking uphill at a fixed incline, making it suitable for low-intensity aerobic exercise and simulated sled pushes. The Curve Run HC001 is a self-powered curved treadmill for sprints and HIIT: it features a curved running surface, no motorised incline, and speed controlled by the user. They cater to two different needs: LISS for the former, and high-intensity training for the latter.
Yes, with a few caveats. The Air Bike, Air Row and Air Ski work well in a garage gym with at least 4–6 m² of dedicated space and a headroom of 220 cm. The noise from the fan is considerable: not recommended for shared flats. For running, the Curve Run and Run Up require a dedicated space and technical flooring beneath the machine to minimise vibrations.
The most commonly used formats are Tabata (20" work / 10" recovery × 8 rounds), EMOM calorie-based workouts on the Air Bike or Air Row, 30/30 sprints on the Curve Run, and mixed AMRAP protocols in CrossFit WODs. The Air Ski is excellent for long rowing-style intervals of 500–1000 m. Air machines allow you to track calories, metres and watts for objective training planning.
We recommend a technical rubber flooring layer of at least 10–15 mm beneath the Air Bike, Air Row and Air Ski to dampen vibrations and protect the floor. For the Curve Run and Run Up, which have a heavy base and an integrated running surface, a 20 mm technical mat placed beneath the machine insulates the subfloor. Sidea supplies specialist flooring in its flooring section.
