Fitness resistance bands: the Sidea selection

The elastics Fitness equipment is versatile and can be used across almost every type of training environment. This is not a single product range but a system of equipment united by the progressive resistance provided by the elastic material — latex, fabric or technical rubber — in various formats: closed loops, flat bands, tubing with handles, and wide bands for the hips and glutes. Sidea offers 13 products covering the full range of uses, from group classes group activity at the individual training session in home gym, from calisthenics to ski training.

Who should use fitness resistance bands?

The fitness coach uses them for pre-weightlifting muscle activation, for prehabilitation exercises for the shoulders and hips, and to vary the resistance profile for movements such as squats and hip thrust. A loop positioned just above the knees during unilateral exercises is sufficient to activate the gluteus medius effectively and measurably.

In CrossFit boxes and during sessions of calisthenics training Power loops are used to assist with the initial pull-ups and muscle-ups, or to add external resistance to dips and push-ups in advanced training programmes. This is standard practice in many StrongFirst and RKC protocols.

For physiotherapists and personal trainers in the gym, fit tubes and flat latex bands are the main tools used for open-kinetic-chain strengthening exercises targeting the shoulder, hip and ankle, as well as for integrated proprioceptive training. The fabric bands — Hip Band and Textile Band — are particularly suitable for glute activation protocols prior to high-intensity training.

For group activity sessions, disposable or reusable resistance bands are a cost-effective, hygienic and versatile piece of equipment for functional fitness classes, circuit training and guided stretching. In this context, the availability of different resistance levels makes it possible to work with mixed-ability groups without having to overhaul the programme.

Finally, enthusiasts of home and garage gyms will find that resistance bands are a useful complement to free weights: heavy loops to add variable resistance to the barbell, light bands for mobility and warm-ups, and tubing for exercises to strengthen the scapula and rotator cuff.

How to choose the right elastic

The first criterion is the format. Closed loops (Power Loop, Latex Loop) are self-supporting, require no attachments and are used directly around the limbs or anchored to a rack. Flat bands (Latex Bands) are more versatile as they can be folded, cut to size or used as an anchor strap. Fit tubes with integrated handles replicate the movements of cable machines and are suitable for exercises that mimic isotonic machine training.

The second criterion is resistance. Mass-market manufacturers use standardised colours, but there is no unified industry standard: 10 kg on one brand’s loop does not correspond to 10 kg on another’s. It is better to think in terms of perceived effort at 10–15 repetitions. As a practical guide: light resistance (e.g. Grey Textile Band) is used for activation and mobility; medium resistance (Black Textile Band, Latex Loop 0511) for targeted muscle strengthening; and high resistance (Latex Loop 0512, high-resistance Power Loops) for assisting pull-ups or adding load to a barbell.

The material affects durability and grip. Natural latex offers excellent elasticity and a long lifespan if stored away from heat sources; it tends to slip on sweaty skin. Fabric (Textile Band, Hip Band, Pop Elastics) stays in place on the thighs and buttocks even during intense movements, and is more comfortable in direct contact with the skin. Rubber tubing (Fit Tube) is stiffer, making it ideal for simulating cable pulls.

Third criterion: individual or group use. For classes of 10–20 people, it is advisable to purchase sets with multiple resistance levels that can be stored neatly. Fabric resistance bands, which offer better hygiene and are less prone to deterioration from sweat than latex ones, are often preferred in settings involving continuous group activities.

Sidea products for fitness resistance bands

The Sidea range in this category is divided into four main sub-categories.

Latex elastic bands: Latex Bands (0560–0562 and 0520–0524) in a flat design, available in various lengths and thicknesses. Latex Loops in medium (0511) and high (0512) resistance, ideal for calisthenics and for adding variable resistance to the barbell. Power Loop Elastics (0513–0518 and V-version 0517V–0518V) in the higher resistance range, designed to assist gymnastic movements or add extra load to strength exercises.

Fit Tube and resistance bands: Fit Tube Pro (0567-0569) in three resistance levels with ergonomic handles. Fit Tube Strong Black 90 cm (0569/90) in the highest resistance version, suitable for high-intensity training. The tubing range allows you to replicate cable exercises in settings where isotonic machines are not available.

Fabric elastics: Grey Textile Band (0601, low resistance), Black Textile Band (0600, medium resistance), Hip Band (0606, high resistance for hip thrust and glute activation), Pop Elastics (0605, compact multi-resistance set). The fabric does not slip during movement and is particularly suitable for exercises targeting the hips and thighs.

Complementary accessories: the Ergo Spin Bar (9010/25 – 9010/55) is an ergonomic bar designed to optimise your grip during exercises with resistance bands, reducing strain on the wrists and forearms. Also available in the following categories Grips, handles, push ups.

Why choose Sidea

Sidea has been selecting and distributing professional fitness equipment since 1999, with over 25 years’ direct experience in the sector. The range of resistance bands has been developed over time by gathering feedback from fitness trainers, physiotherapists and gym managers — not simply put together to fill a catalogue. Sidea is the official StrongFirst distributor in Italy, a methodological benchmark that also informs the selection of elastic resistance equipment. The warehouse in Gambettola, covering over 4,000 m², guarantees actual stock availability, not just nominal availability. For those managing facilities with specific volume or configuration requirements, the Sidea technical team is available to provide direct advice.

Domande frequenti - Elastici

  • Latex offers greater elasticity and is suitable for a wide range of exercises. However, it tends to slip on sweaty skin. Fabric resistance bands — such as the Hip Band and Textile Band — stay securely in place on the thighs and buttocks even during dynamic movements, are more comfortable against the skin and are less likely to deteriorate when exposed to continuous sweat.
  • The loop is secured to the bar and you place a foot or a knee inside it. The elastic band reduces the load to be lifted at the most challenging point of the movement — the initial pull phase — without altering the mechanics of the movement. This allows you to build up volume on pull-ups and muscle-ups even before you have reached the strength required for unassisted repetitions.
  • Yes, light- and medium-resistance bands and tubing are standard tools in physiotherapy for progressive strengthening in an open kinetic chain, functional rehabilitation of the shoulder, hip and ankle, and proprioceptive training. Their resistance, which varies according to length, makes them suitable for restricted ranges of motion. Their use in a rehabilitation setting always requires supervision by a qualified professional.
  • Power loops are secured to the ends of the bar and attached to a low fixed point — the legs of the rack or weight plates on the floor. During the extension phase, as the barbell rises, the elastic band stretches and increases the overall load. This technique, commonly used in powerlifting and the Westside Barbell Conjugate Method, alters the force profile across the entire range of motion.
  • For a mixed group of 10–20 people, it is advisable to have at least three resistance levels: light, medium and strong. This allows each participant to choose the appropriate intensity without interrupting the class. Fabric resistance bands are preferable in this context for reasons of hygiene and durability following repeated washing.
  • Latex degrades when exposed to prolonged heat, direct UV light and ozone. It is best to store them in a sealed bag or container, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. After use, it is a good idea to wipe them with a dry cloth to remove sweat and moisture. A latex elastic band stored correctly will retain its properties for several years of regular use.
