Yoga & Pilates MAT: the Sidea selection
The mat is the first piece of equipment used in any holistic session. Often underestimated, it actually determines the stability of the base of support, the transfer of forces whilst maintaining balance, and comfort during prolonged floor-based positions. The Sidea selection brings together 13 items, including yoga and Pilates mats, transport accessories and kits designed for holistic training. Different materials — TPE, cork, EVA, polyethylene — are suited to specific uses: there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all mat, but there is the right one for every situation.
Who is Yoga & Pilates MAT for?
Its use appeals to a much wider range of people than traditional yoga alone.
In Pilates studios and gyms offering group exercise classes, 100 or 160 cm EVA solid-block mats meet the needs of structured classes: they provide stable surfaces that are easy to sanitise and can be stacked or leaned against a wall. The category group activity Sidea includes precisely these heavy-duty formats.
Personal trainers who work on the move or in shared spaces, on the other hand, tend to prefer foldable PE or TPE mats: they fold into thirds, fit into a bag and weigh less than 1 kg. The mat-carrying strap completes the solution for those who are frequently on the move.
For the home gym and the advanced garage gym, the natural cork mat is a technically sound choice: it offers a high-grip surface even when sweaty, is naturally antibacterial, and is ideal for flow yoga sessions or intense floor work. Cork is also featured in the Holistic Cork Kit, which combines a mat, blocks and a roller in a single solution.
The larger sizes — the 1×2 m yoga/Pilates mat — are ideal for those who practise activities that require plenty of horizontal space: advanced stretching, mobility work, and Pilates sequences involving sideways movements.
How to choose
The first factor is the material, which affects grip, cushioning and hygiene.
- TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer): a PVC- and latex-free, lightweight material with good grip on both sides. Suitable for dynamic yoga, mobility exercises and balance training on hard surfaces. The typical thickness is around 6 mm.
- Natural cork: cork top surface, TPE or natural rubber base. Grip that improves with moisture — the exact opposite of traditional PVC. A technical choice for those who sweat a lot or practise hot yoga.
- Monoblock EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate): high density, retains its shape over time, extremely easy to clean. Thicknesses from 10 mm upwards. Designed for intensive use in the gym, not for frequent transport.
- Foldable PE (expanded polyethylene): the lightest and most compact option. Offers less cushioning than EVA, but is extremely practical. Suitable for low-impact exercises, stretching and group activities involving frequent changes of location.
The second factor is size. The standard 60×173 cm size is suitable for most yoga and Pilates exercises. The 100 cm wide size is ideal for those practising lateral movements or for taller users. The 1×2 m mat is a professional solution for permanent studio use.
Third factor: accessories and portability. The mat strap is a functional, rather than decorative, feature: a rolled-up mat without a strap during a group session quickly becomes a logistical problem. The Pilates ring enhances the workout by providing light resistance for the adductors, chest and core stabilisers.
Sidea Products for Yoga & Pilates MATs
The range is divided into four main types.
TPE mats: the 0409 model is the standard TPE mat, featuring a double-layer construction with a non-slip surface on both sides. Lightweight, suitable for both yoga and balance training on flat surfaces.
Cork Mat and Holistic Cork Kit: the 3014 Cork Mat is made with a top layer of natural cork and a TPE base. The Holistic Cork Kit (0282K) expands on this concept to create a complete set that also includes mobility and recovery tools, suitable for both personal use and as equipment for studios.
EVA single-piece mats: available in three configurations — 0403 black 100 cm, 0403/1 grey 100 cm and 0401 grey 160 cm. All are made from high-density EVA and feature eyelets for wall mounting or positioning on vertical structures. Designed for intensive use in group activity settings or fitness studios with a high turnover of users.
Foldable PE mats: the 0407 model folds into three sections, reducing to the size of a rucksack. Ideal for mobile PE sessions or outdoor classes. The 3025 mat (1×2 m), on the other hand, is the professional-grade, fixed-position option for dedicated gyms.
Accessories: the 3010 Mat Strap and the 0092 Pilates Ring round off the range with equipment to support your daily practice.

TPE offers a uniform surface with good grip in dry conditions and is lightweight and compact. Natural cork improves grip in damp or sweaty conditions, making it more effective during intense sessions or hot yoga. Cork is also naturally antibacterial, which is particularly important for intensive or shared use.
-
For floor-based Pilates, where you spend a lot of time in supine and side-lying positions, a minimum thickness of 6–8 mm is recommended to protect the vertebrae and joints. Single-piece EVA mats with thicknesses of 10 mm and above offer maximum cushioning and are particularly suitable for prolonged floor work.
-
The foldable PE mat is designed primarily for ease of transport and for stretching sessions or low-impact activities. For dynamic yoga involving quick transitions and poses that require a high level of grip, a TPE or cork mat is preferable: the PE surface has a lower coefficient of friction, particularly when wet with sweat.
-
Yes. Models 0403, 0403/1 and 0401 are fitted with eyelets that allow them to be mounted vertically on a wall or on special racks. This arrangement is very common in fitness studios with limited space: the mats are stored vertically and handed out at the start of the group session.
-
The Pilates ring — or magic circle — is a versatile piece of equipment. It is used to activate the adductors, stabilise the shoulder girdle and perform light resistance work in core training. It is also found in functional rehabilitation programmes and active mobility sessions, not necessarily within a strictly Pilates context.
-
For a room used for group classes, the standard 60×173 cm size allows the mats to be laid out with approximately 50 cm of space on either side between each participant. The 1×2 m mat is recommended for studios offering one-to-one or semi-private sessions where horizontal movement is an integral part of the programme.
