A world bronze.
This is the extraordinary result that Cesena athlete Sofia Gatta brought home from the Strongwoman World Championships in Alcobendas, Spain. It is not just about lifting extreme loads, but a true test of mental and physical resilience.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Sofia immediately after her triumph to let her tell us about the journey that took her to that podium, the importance of targeted preparation and the fundamental role of those who believe in niche sports.
The Interview: Sweat, Passion and Support
Blog: Sofia, congratulations on this splendid third place at the Strongwoman World Championship. After years of hard work, how does it feel to stand on such a prestigious podium, representing Italy?
Sofia Gatta: It was an indescribable emotion, an infinite satisfaction. To take part in a competition of this level was an immense honour. But, as I always say, the real challenge is not against the other athletes; it is against yourself. Standing on that podium was proof that sweat and effort paid off, exceeding the limits you thought you had.
Blog: Strongman is a discipline that totally challenges the body. Can you tell us briefly about the preparation you underwent to arrive in top shape for this event in Spain?
Sofia Gatta: The preparation was meticulous and very hard. My coach, Luca Succi, with the Strong Woman Cesena philosophy, developed a truly customised workout, combining physical strength, perseverance and determination. For the world championship, it was a matter of sharpening technique like a razor's edge, managing loads optimally, and maintaining the mental attitude until the end, knowing that every mistake costs precious points. It is a path that requires daily sacrifices, a true way of life.
Blog: In a niche sport like Strongman, having the right equipment is crucial, often making the difference between good training and world-class preparation. How important was it to have access to specific tools to deal with such high loads?
Sofia Gatta: This is crucial and I want to emphasise it strongly. Not all gyms have the necessary equipment for Strongman, and this can hold back many athletes. This is where the support of enlightened partners like SIDEA, Europe's leading supplier of athletic training equipment, comes in. Thanks to their commitment to promoting and marketing professional equipment for strength disciplines, I was able to train with the best and most specific tools.
Blog: What was the hardest moment of preparation?
Sofia Gatta: Undoubtedly, it was the constant overcoming of my physical limits, especially in conjunction with a major weight cut needed to get back into my category. But all this was possible thanks to coach Luca: his preparation was more than perfect. He did not just build a Strongwoman physique, but moulded a winning mentality, allowing me to push myself beyond what I thought was possible. His technical and moral support was the secret ingredient of success.
Blog: Finally, you told us that lifting such heavy weights makes you feel "invincible". What message do you want to give to anyone who is looking for their strength, inside or outside the gym?
Sofia Gatta: Strongman is more than a sport, it is a philosophy. Lifting these weights pushes me to discover my inner strength and to constantly push my limits. To anyone who is struggling, I say this: if you can lift a 250-kilo Yoke or drag a car, you can overcome any obstacle in your life. Prove to yourself that you can do it, one lift at a time.
An Example for All
