SUPPORT CUSHION - Support pillow for abdominals
The Support Cushion is a cushion made of polyurethane foam, covered with PVC, which is useful in all applications where a comfortable but not easily deformable support is needed for exercises performed mainly on the floor.
In fact, the high density of polyurethane allows this tool to perform an effective support function without deforming by being totally crushed even when subjected to heavy weights. This allows the cushion to be used as a lumbar, cervical, or certain limb support, in order to condition posture during exercises or during treatments.
The rounded wedge shape allows the widest range of height and positioning solutions possible.

Training the abdomen
The Support Cushion is also widely used as a tool for performing abdominal exercises, hence the often-used name Ab Mat (or abdominal support cushion). Placed under the lumbar region, it facilitates stretching of the rectus abdominis during crunches, acting as a support for the spine to support the physiological lumbar curve.
This is an important application, as attempting to restore one curve of the spine can positively influence the correct restoration of all other curves and postural alignment. After all, respecting or restoring the correct conformation of the spine is of great importance, both for well-being and for sports performance.
Furthermore, through the positioning of the cushion it is possible to vary the intensity of the crunches. If the support is placed in the lumbar region, the intensity will in fact be greater, due to a wider movement, while it will be lower if placed in the thoracic region.
A very useful tool for trainers therefore, a kind of ally, to be used with beginners but also with advanced athletes with postural problems.
Other uses of the Support Cushion
Another way of using the Support Cushion can be in the prone position. Resting your chest on the cushion at the height of the xiphoid process of the sternum, align your arms outstretched above your head while also lifting your feet off the floor. The only point of contact will then be that of the chest on the pillow. The exercise consists of emphasising the movement, and especially the activation, of the posterior chain in its entirety. The activation will start from the feet, positioned strictly in a hammer position, up to the muscles of the cervical spine.
