Cork Mat
The Cork Mat is a non-slip rolling mat made by combining a layer of cork with a layer of TPE rubber. The rubber part, to be placed in contact with the floor, is purely non-slip, while the natural cork part facilitates slipping when changing position, while guaranteeing a good degree of grip and avoiding situations of excessive slipping due to sweating. From this point of view, cork expresses one of its most pronounced qualities because the wetter it gets, the greater the grip. The mat is therefore excellent in hot yoga and all styles of yoga, especially the more energetic and dynamic ones, in Pilates and in general in all holistic disciplines.
The Cork Mat must be rolled dry, with the cork side facing outwards, to prevent premature deterioration. It should not be exposed to the sun for a long time or left in very hot places, e.g. in a car, as the cork-rubber combination could be damaged.
The cork layer is thin and delicate, and must be used with care. It cannot be used with shoes, and in general for exercises that subject it to high stress.
Dimensions 1750 x 610 mm thickness 5 mm.
Shoe soles are the enemy of mats, especially when performing exercises that require high grip and thus high friction and abrasion. The recommended models for this kind of situation, which will always result in a high degree of wear and tear, are code mats: 3024, 3025, 0400, 0400/1, 0401. We do not recommend model no. 3016, Specific for use without shoes, code 0407. The code mats 0403 e 0403/1 are short models, designed so that the shoes remain outside. Therefore, one must try to avoid contact between the mat and shoes as much as possible to limit wear. All mats are manufactured from polymers in a rubbery state. Elasticity and softness characterise the different models in various ways, hence the comfort and pleasantness to the touch. The soles of sports shoes are also made from rubbery materials but, due to their function; sports on concrete floors, asphalt, wood, etc., adopt much harder and more abrasive materials. Materials, solutions and thicknesses, unsuitable for making mats. Therefore, the soles of shoes are inevitably the enemy of mats, especially if one performs exercises that result in high grip and therefore high rubbing. Mountain climbing type exercises, for example, immediately ruin any mat if one does not take care to keep one's feet off the equipment. It is not a question of quality and it is not even a question of time, but mainly a question of materials and the way you use them. Any mat model will show breakage and premature wear if used with footwear and improperly.
New line of cork tools
The solution is significant above all on an aesthetic level, because cork manages to express the image of a natural, biocompatible raw material in harmony with life. This appears extremely consistent with this type of equipment, often used as accessories in holistic disciplines.
However, there are also technical aspects that justify making gymnastic equipment, to be used in contact with the body, from this natural element. Cork is structured using closed cells and has important qualities: non-toxic, hypoallergenic, odourless, waterproof, compact, resistant, light, durable, elastic. It is no coincidence that the historical application of cork is in the production of corks for wine bottles.
The behaviour of cork with respect to wetness, in our case with respect to sweat, and the high waterproofing qualities, are perhaps the most interesting aspects for our application, both in terms of hygiene and the fact that cork does not become slippery. High grip is indeed an important quality for these tools, a quality that becomes essential in the case of the mat. The 3014 Cork Mat is exceptionally non-slip, in fact, the wetter it gets, the greater the grip. Excellent in all holistic disciplines but particularly in hot yoga.
