Outdoor training solutions for public spaces
Public parks and gardens, but also squares, beaches and, in general, outdoor spaces in which one can freely exercise in the open air. The diffusion of disciplines such as calisthenics and cross-training, combined with the fascination of exercising in contact with nature, is increasingly leading to the need to enrich public spaces intended for recreation and leisure with fixed and multi-functional equipment, which allows the possibilities of training in these contexts to be amplified.
Standards EN 16630:2015 and EN 1176
Facilities of this type are subject to specific EU regulations, which bind their characteristics to certain safety limits. The direct accessibility of this equipment by users who are not necessarily trained and/or supervised by qualified personnel (as is the case in private environments, such as gyms), makes it necessary to design structures, accessories and any flooring in such a way as to make them as safe as possible.
Specifically, for fixed structures, the standard in question is EN 16630:2015, and for flooring, EN 71.3, EN 1176 and EN 1177.
The Public Island Sidea
For this type of context, we have introduced the "Public Island“, entirely designed to provide outdoor training solutions at public spaces a free access and designed in compliance with the above-mentioned safety standards.
The fundamental element of these Outdoor Training 'islands' is certainly the structure, which is available in two versions: the Public Island Rack code 9085/1 and the Public Island OUTRACE T6 cod. T6BCP.
La Public Island Rack combines minimalist design with extensive training possibilitiesparticularly with regard to the functional trainingthe calisthenics and the cross-training. The Rack can be purchased individually, or combined with other modules of the series Public Islandor the Plyobox, the Bench-Dips and the Parallels. The Full Optional version (including all the above-mentioned elements) has the code 9085.
La Public Island OUTRACE T6 instead takes up the design of the OUTRACEhowever, adapted in this case to comply with EN 16630 and implemented through the addition of fixed components connected directly to the main structure. This model, unlike the rack, is to be considered a Full Optionalas all components are already included in T6BCP, including Parallels and Plyoboxes (the only elements that are detached from the main structure).
Fixing the Public Island Rack
The structures and accessories of the Public Island line can be purchased with two different fixing kits::
- Fixing kit for concrete slab
- Fixing kit for concrete plinth-pit
The Concrete Plateau Kit is suitable for anchoring the structure in the presence of a reinforced concrete slab with a minimum thickness of 12 cm.
The construction of the concrete slab is not included in the product.
The dimensions of the stalls can be provided by our technical department according to a customised layout, or according to the standard layouts displayed in the TECHNICAL DATA SHEET on this page.
The kit includes threaded rods with chemical anchor.
The adoption of a concrete slab as a base, implies, according to UNI EN 16630, the presence of an anti-trauma floor with a minimum thickness of 40mm, e.g. 9198 o 9199. The purpose is to cushion the user's accidental fall during training.
Flooring is not included in this product.
The Plinth Kits is a fastening system that makes it possible to avoid the construction of a reinforced concrete slab, by fastening the Rack to plinths placed under each upright.
This solution, which is more economical and has a lower environmental impact, makes it possible, in compliance with the UNI EN 16630 standard, to use the lawn as a base, avoiding the laying of a non-trauma floor, which is still recommended.
The fixing kit consists of height-adjustable spacers placed under the fixing plates of each upright.
This adjustment system allows any misalignment of underground plinths to be levelled quickly and easily.
The concrete plinths, with internal dimensions of 40x40x40cm, will in fact be buried to a depth of 60cm and filled with concrete following the complete assembly of the structure.
The pit plinths for fixing Plyoboxes code 9085/4, /5, /6 must be positioned flush with the ground and already filled with concrete.
The regulations require a distance of at least 20 cm between the plinth and the ground surface.
The construction and installation of plinths are not included in the product.
Following the installation of the plinths-pit by a third party company (the slab and plinths are not included in the product and cannot be made by our installers), the structure's installers will proceed to place the fastening kit inside the plinths-pit and to fully assemble the Rack.
Once the assembly of the Rack is complete, the third party company in charge of constructing the plinths will fill them with concrete, and subsequently, the turf will be restored.
Again, the layout of the plinths will be provided by our technical department.

flooring: Playground and ecogym 40
As part of the Public Island we have designed two different solutions for technical rubber flooringin compliance with the above-mentioned rules on public spaces:
Public Island PlaygroundThese are 'all-in-one' solutions, already inclusive of a lower concrete screed covered on the surface with a 40 cm thick layer of cast rubber, featuring a contrasting colour scheme to highlight the different work stations. Playgrounds are available in two models, the code 9085_F and cod. T6BCP_Fpre-configured for the Public Island Rack version and OUTRACE T6 version respectively.
The need for a cement screed as a base for the rubber casting makes this flooring model only compatible with the Public Island versions with a cement plateau attachment kit.
EcoGym 40: these are tiles made from agglomerate of brick-red recycled rubber granules, with dimensions 1 x1 m e 40 mm thick.
The tiles of EcoGym 40 are fully compliant with safety regulations for public spaces and, as they can be fixed to each other by means of side pins, they can completely cover the training areas to form a stable and uneven base.
Ecogym tiles can be placed either directly on top of the ground or on hard ground such as asphalt or concrete screeds, so it is compatible with all three methods of fixing Public Island to the ground.
