Public Island: the Sidea selection
Public Island brings together everything you need to set up a functional, durable outdoor fitness area that complies with regulations for public spaces. At its heart is the Public Island Rack tubular structure, available in six configurations — from Model 2 to Model 6 — which differ in the number of active stations and the floor space they occupy. Surrounding the rack is an ecosystem of dedicated accessories: the Plyobox in three sizes, the Parallel for bodyweight pushing and pulling movements, and the Bench-Dips for triceps and dips. The T6BCP Outrace T6 variant incorporates the system’s design philosophy Outrace in a format designed for outdoor use. The range is completed by EcoGym flooring, available in a version for artificial grass and a technical version for hard surfaces.
Who is Public Island for?
The primary area of use is within public administrations — local councils, park authorities, and operators of beach facilities and sports areas — which need to equip open spaces accessible to all, subject to specific requirements regarding safety regulations, material durability and routine maintenance. However, the range is also suitable for private settings: residential complexes, hotels with outdoor wellness areas, and sports centres with uncovered outdoor spaces.
From the end-user’s perspective, Public Island is designed for general bodyweight training: pull-ups, dips, push-ups, jumps and plyometric movements. It does not require continuous technical supervision, making it suitable for open-access installations. At the same time, the inclusion of stations such as the Plyobox or the parallettes enables more experienced users — runners, calisthenics athletes, practitioners of functional training — to find specific stimuli without the facility being too small for their needs.
How to choose
The choice of model depends on three main factors: the available floor space, the average number of concurrent users expected, and the types of movements to be included.
The smaller models (M2, M3) are suitable for confined spaces or satellite areas — such as a corner of a park or a secondary area of a lido — where the aim is to provide a basic range of exercises without taking up too much space. The M4, M5 and M6 models cater for more structured fitness areas, with more attachment points, greater scope for simultaneous use and a wider variety of integrated stations. The T6BCP Outrace T6 model is in a different category: it inherits the reinforced tubular construction of the Outrace range and is suited to installations requiring superior structural performance or closer integration with other systems.
When it comes to flooring, the choice depends on the subfloor: the'EcoGym Rubber Floor Public Garden It is designed for synthetic grass surfaces, whilst the EcoGym 40 is the solution for hard outdoor surfaces — tarmac, concrete, paving stones — where shock absorption and slip resistance are required. Both are designed to withstand prolonged exposure to UV rays, rain and temperature fluctuations.
One aspect that is often overlooked during the design phase is the safety distance between the equipment and the area accessible to users. The European standard EN 16630 for outdoor fitness equipment stipulates free-fall zones around each piece of equipment: it is essential to check these requirements before finalising the layout, particularly where there are elevated elements such as pull-up bars or Plyoboxes.
Sidea products for Public Island
The range is divided into three distinct families.
Rack-mounted systems: the Public Island Rack (SKU 9085) is the basic model, available in the M2, M3, M4, M5 and M6 variants. Each model increases the number of active stations and the spatial configuration. The T6BCP Public Island Outrace T6 is the reinforced version derived from the Outrace range.
Standalone accessories: the Plyobox (available in three heights: 4, 5, 6) can be attached to the main frame or installed as a freestanding unit for plyometric training. The Parallel (Public Island Parallel) offers a dedicated station for push-up movements, positioned parallel to the parallettes. The Bench-Dips completes the range with a specific unit for dips and triceps extension exercises.
Outdoor flooring: the EcoGym Rubber Floor Public Garden (SKU 9198) is the solution for synthetic grass surfaces. The EcoGym 40 (SKU 9199) is the technical flooring For hard outdoor surfaces, 40 mm thick for impact absorption.

Domande frequenti - Public Island
-
In Italy and across the European Union, outdoor fitness equipment for public use must comply with standard EN 16630:2015, which sets out requirements for structural safety, free-fall zones, material strength and periodic inspection. For installations in municipal parks or on public beaches, it is also necessary to check local regulations and, in some cases, obtain planning permission.
-
Public Island structures are designed to be anchored to the ground, usually by means of bolted plates set into a concrete foundation. The depth and dimensions of the foundations depend on the model chosen, the type of ground and the expected loads. It is always advisable to consult a qualified engineer for a structural assessment prior to final installation.
-
The models differ mainly in terms of the number of active stations, their floor space requirements and their capacity for simultaneous use. Model 2 is the most basic configuration, suitable for small spaces with a basic set of exercises. Model 6 is the most comprehensive configuration, with more attachment points, greater capacity for simultaneous users and a wider range of supported movements.
-
The equipment supports bodyweight exercises: pull-ups (including chin-ups and muscle-ups), dips, push-ups, core exercises and plyometric jumps on Plyoboxes at various heights. The Parallel adds stations for L-sits and push-up variations. The T6 Outrace configuration further expands the possibilities with attachment points compatible with the Outrace system.
-
Outdoor tubular structures require regular inspections of bolts, anchor points and contact surfaces. The frequency of inspections depends on the intensity of use and exposure to the elements: the EN 16630 standard specifies quarterly visual inspections and annual structural checks as the minimum requirement for high-traffic public spaces.
-
The flooring is technically optional, but strongly recommended for two reasons: safety, as it reduces the risk of falls in operational areas; and protection of the subfloor, as it limits damage to the ground in high-traffic areas. The choice between EcoGym Rubber Floor Public Garden and EcoGym 40 depends on the nature of the existing sub-base.
