Jerk Blocks are useful tools for strength training with a barbell, especially for competitive Olympic weight training. Our model, 9115 ADJ Metal Jerk Blocks, was in fact developed from the experience and needs of specialised weight training gyms, with a focus on starting young athletes.
The equipment, consisting of a pair of sturdy, moulded rubber blocks with sturdy metal frames, is highly technical and specific. Designed to provide secure support for the loaded barbell, it is ideal for performing overhead push and pull exercises, hence the name Jerk Blocks.
The use of Jerk Blocks is partly similar to Wooden Jerk Plyoblocks 9113:
- Safety and injury prevention: the specialisation of the exercise, focused exclusively on the overhead push phase, allows the athlete to train with high loads, reducing the risk of injury. Thanks to the partialisation of the movement, it is not necessary to lift the barbell off the ground at each repetition.
- Versatility: barbell supports offer the possibility of performing various accessory exercises and variations, increasing the specialisation of technical movements.
Among the different exercises that can be performed with Jerk Blocks:
- Jerk: movement of the barbell above the head, starting from a high, safe position.
- Push Press: lifting the barbell above the head using the push of the legs.
- Snatch Balance: facilitated by the high start, it consists of performing deep squats with the barbell positioned above the head.
- Drop Snatch: the athlete quickly enters a deep squat while pushing the barbell overhead.
The Adjustable Metal Jerk Blocks, Code 9115are adjustable in height, allowing the barbell loaded with bumper discs to be positioned between 113 and 148 cm above the ground, measured from the centre of the bar.
From a practical point of view, although adjustments are rare in the gym, thanks to the adaptability of the athletes, the possibility of varying the height becomes indispensable when physical differences are pronounced, ensuring an effective and safe workout.
