EVAGYM - Technical EVA flooring (1 cm thick)
The EvaGym floor is a new product born in 2021 from the success of EVA mats and the need for a highly absorbent but more practical technical floor covering than the EcoGym, made from recycled rubber granules.
The differences between the EvaGym floor and the EcoGym
The EcoGym floor, available in 1 cm versions (code 9201P) and 2 cm (code 9202P), is an extremely specific product, suitable for Crossfit® and functional training characterised by dropping equipment, 'dropping', and the possible presence of sweat on the ground. The agglomerate of rubber granules is the best solution in such contexts. In contrast, a recycled rubber granular flooring is more difficult to clean, cumbersome to remove and put on, and not entirely odourless.
EVA, on the other hand, is a closed-cell polymer, totally odourless, easy to clean, lightweight, with excellent absorption qualities and a very good degree of bearing capacity and stability. For training areas, especially if training on the floor, where equipment is not expected to fall systematically, but is instead accompanied to the ground, EvaGym is the right product.
The interlockings are precise, do not generate joints and are designed to facilitate installation, making installation quick and convenient; a very useful feature in cases where the multi-purpose nature of rooms obliges frequent movement of the tiles. The weight of 2 kg per tile further facilitates moving operations.
By definition and inherent characteristics, tatamis should be used barefoot, or with footwear free of soles, sharp and/or abrasive parts.
The material: EVA
The EVA used is the same as the tatami tiles, but EvaGym has a higher density and hardness, so that the 10 mm thick tile weighs 2 kg, the same as 20 mm thick tatami tiles. On a practical level, this results in greater stability and less of a 'jelly' effect, while retaining its high absorption qualities. Tatami is a softer, rubbery floor designed for martial arts, EvaGym is a soft floor but designed for general training, even with weights, and therefore more compact and stable.
Other features:
- As with the tatami tiles, EvaGym tiles are produced by moulding. During production, a silicone-based protective agent is used, which makes the new tile slightly slippery. Use or cleaning with degreaser removes this initial slipperiness.
- EVA is a closed-cell, elastic, dense, medium-soft polymer with low load-bearing strength.
Supporting a weight, for example, can cause a dent and if the support is prolonged over time the dent can become permanent.
The floor is not suitable for the careless use of heavy, sharp-edged tools, such as clubs and hammers; objects that can mark and engrave the surface of the tiles. It is not suitable as a surface on which to place isotonic or cardio machines.
Use as a surface on which to place isotonic machines, racks, cardio machines is contraindicated.
EvaGym cannot be wheeled, so the use of equipment with wheels is contraindicated.
Avoid captive installations: EvaGym must not be blocked by walls or heavy furniture, but left free to expand. In the presence of high temperature fluctuations (e.g. direct exposure to the sun in some areas), the material may expand.
Complies with Regulation 1907/2006 REACH. Exercise equipment that can also be used by children under 14 years of age.
Reg. 1907/2006 REACH concerns the evaluation of chemicals; it aims to ensure the highest level of protection of human health and the environment.
Tested in accordance with EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3: mechanical safety, flammability and migration of chemical elements. Also suitable for schools, baby gyms, children’s play areas and motor skills play areas.
EVA mats - Quality, safety and user perception of Sidea tiles
The tatami cannot be perfectly identical if the tiles are purchased at a distance.
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) tiles, like all foam materials, may show variations in colour, density or surface texture between different production batches. These differences are completely normal and result from production tolerances typical of soft materials and processing conditions.
In the course of use, then, EVA tends to change slightly under compression and friction, progressively adapting to the support surface, the activity performed and the environment. It is therefore natural that a user, accustomed to his or her tatami over time, will perceive a different degree of softness, friction or elastic response to new tiles.
Sidea is a leading manufacturer of tatami and all Sidea tatami are made from materials that comply with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 REACH, which governs the registration and evaluation of chemicals used in manufacturing processes. This compliance guarantees the highest level of health and environmental protection, ensuring that the materials used are free of banned or potentially harmful substances. The choice not to use chemical plasticising and stabilising additives, in addition to the natural characteristics of EVA, may make the tiles slightly more susceptible to production tolerances and slight changes due to use. However, this choice is to the benefit of safety, as it contributes to full compliance with the REACH Regulation, ensuring that Sidea's mats are also safe for children and infants, who can use them in total peace of mind for their first motor and exploration activities.
